FREE LEASEHOLDERS LEAD HIGH COURT INTERVENTION APPLICATION

Free Leaseholders is leading a coalition of grassroots leaseholder groups and housing rights campaigns in an application to defend key provisions of the Leasehold and Reform Act 2024 from a judicial review initiated by Big Freeholders.

Working with the Federation of Private Residents’ Associations (FPRA), Brighton Hove and District Leaseholders Association (BHDLA), Home Owners Rights Network (HorNets), and the Social Housing Action Campaign (SHAC), we’ve enlisted the pro bono support of solicitor Paul Ridge of Bindmans, and counsel Laura Collignon of Thomas More Chambers.

After years of campaigning, leaseholders won the argument with government and in Parliament – and now Big Freeholders are using lawfare to thwart reform.

We’re determined to present the other side of the story and defend the change that people voted for.

Our efforts leading the coalition to defend vital provisions in the 2024 Act are already making waves – as covered in Inside Housing.

We’ll find out whether we’ve been successful in our application for permission to intervene on FRIDAY 23RD MAY.
